Impact & Resources

Impact

AS YOU CHOOSE has a tremendous opportunity for impact. As states around the country, emboldened by the Trump administration, work to dismantle Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, it’s clear that the fight for Disability Rights continues. Already, many people with disabilities live below the poverty line and struggle to get adequate care. It feels like we’re at a political precipice where things could get much worse.

By featuring activists with disabilities fighting for their right to live independently and have equal access in a world built for and by the able-bodied, AS YOU CHOOSE shows that people with disabilities are capable, motivated, and complex human beings. Easy Does It also provides a model for grassroots activism and successful systemic change. The disabled community in Berkeley campaigned for and successfully passed Measure E, a small property tax on Berkeley homeowners. With the stability of the property tax, they are able to consistently run emergency services for the physically disabled and elderly. The organization does not rely on grant money from the federal government or foundations to be solvent. This can be an inspiring model in trying times.
